      Additional Information

I was elected as course representative throughout my degree – a role requiring negotiation, tact and diplomacy in liaison between students and academic staff. As a result of this, I was selected by academic staff to represent the LLB course to senior management within the university. I was part of a team which investigated retention of students. We successfully proposed action points for the university board.

I was elected as the Secretary of the University Law Society which required the ability to manage a number of commitments and organise events for students including trips to London and various court visits. I also set up and oversaw a work placement scheme with two firms of solicitors in the local area. In doing this I was able to secure sponsorship for a number of university events whilst maintaining a healthy budget for the society. I created and edited the Law Society newsletter. In addition to this I successfully established and became President of the Amnesty International Society.

In 2006 I was elected to become a Member of the United Kingdom Youth Parliament (MYP). I was further elected to represent all of the other MYP’s the North of England. I delivered a paper to Parliament on educational reform. In recognition of this I was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by Members of Parliament with whom I had worked.

As part of a commitment to work as a solicitor in the North West, in demonstrating innovation I have joined a number of business networks in the region. I am also a member of the St James’s Club within Manchester.

In my spare time I enjoy climbing and fell walking, along with kayaking, white water rafting and golf. I like to keep up to date with current affairs whilst enjoying a good read. Having once played Rugby League at a professional level I am also a keen fan of St Helens R.L.F.C.

Most recently I have been appointed as the Cheshire and North Wales Junior Lawyer Division committee member and representative of the College of Law. This role sees me organising major events and a series of talks with solicitors and business professionals across the region.
